American Airlines and STARLUX Launch Codeshare, Expanding U.S.–Asia Travel Connections

MundoTrip | Travel News | 24 September 2026

American Airlines and Taiwan-based STARLUX Airlines have launched a new codeshare partnership, giving travellers more ways to connect between the United States, Taiwan and destinations across Asia. Tickets for the new codeshare became available on September 23, 2026, with the first codeshare flights scheduled to begin on September 30.

The agreement expands on an interline partnership the two airlines established in 2025. Under the new arrangement, eligible American Airlines and STARLUX flights can be combined into a single itinerary, making connections between the two carriers easier for travellers.

New Codeshare Connects STARLUX With American's U.S. Network

The partnership links STARLUX's transpacific flights between the United States and Taipei with selected American Airlines services across the U.S.

The initial codeshare covers 20 U.S. destinations, including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Orlando, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver and Las Vegas. Other destinations in the initial network include Albuquerque, Austin, El Paso, Kansas City, San Diego, St. Louis, Tucson and Washington, D.C.

For travellers, the arrangement can make it easier to book a journey that combines a STARLUX transpacific flight with an American Airlines connecting flight rather than arranging separate airline itineraries.

Single-Ticket Booking and Through-Checked Baggage

One of the main benefits of the new codeshare is the ability to book eligible flights as a single itinerary.

Passengers can also have checked baggage transferred through to their final destination, subject to applicable local customs requirements. This can reduce the need to arrange separate tickets and manage baggage between independently booked flights.

The partnership therefore provides a more integrated travel option for passengers travelling between American Airlines' U.S. network and STARLUX's transpacific services.

More Options for Travellers Flying Between the U.S. and Asia

The expanded relationship is particularly relevant to U.S. travellers heading to Taiwan or connecting onward through STARLUX's Taipei hub to destinations across Asia.

STARLUX operates an expanding Asian network, while American Airlines provides extensive domestic connectivity across the United States. By linking the two networks through codeshare flights, travellers can access more combinations between U.S. cities and STARLUX's international services.

The arrangement also works in the opposite direction, allowing STARLUX passengers arriving in the United States to connect onto eligible American Airlines services.

What the Planned Frequent-Flyer Partnership Will Offer

What the Partnership Means for U.S. Travellers

For U.S. travellers, the most immediate benefit is greater connectivity when planning trips between American cities and Taiwan or other Asian destinations served through STARLUX's network.

Instead of building an itinerary from separate airline bookings, eligible journeys can now be combined through the codeshare arrangement. Travellers can also benefit from through-checked baggage when the itinerary qualifies, making the overall connection process more straightforward.

The partnership also gives STARLUX access to a larger U.S. connecting network as the airline continues expanding its presence in North America.

A Growing Partnership Between the Two Airlines

The new codeshare represents a deeper level of cooperation between American Airlines and STARLUX after their interline agreement in 2025.

STARLUX has continued expanding its North American network, including the launch of its Phoenix–Taipei service earlier in 2026. The airline has said that partnerships such as its agreement with American Airlines are part of its broader effort to strengthen connections between North America and its Asian network.

For now, the key change for travellers is the launch of the codeshare itself, with more connecting opportunities expected to be added as the partnership develops.

What Travellers Should Know

The new American Airlines–STARLUX codeshare is available for booking from September 23, 2026, with codeshare flights beginning September 30. Travellers should check their specific itinerary when booking because codeshare availability and connecting options depend on the flights included in the journey.

For U.S. travellers planning trips to Taiwan and other destinations in Asia, the expanded partnership provides a new way to combine American Airlines' domestic network with STARLUX's international services through a single eligible itinerary.
