Qatar Airways Expands Winter Network to 170+ Destinations, Opening More International Options for U.S. Travelers

MundoTrip | Travel News | 11 September 2026

Qatar Airways is expanding its 2026–27 winter network to more than 170 destinations, with nearly 1,800 weekly flights planned for December 2026. For travelers in the United States, the biggest benefit is not a wave of new nonstop routes but more connecting opportunities through Doha as the airline adds or restores flights to destinations across Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia. Qatar Airways will continue serving several major U.S. airports, although some American routes are scheduled at lower frequencies, so travelers should check their departure city's schedule before booking.

More International Connections From the United States

Qatar Airways' network gives U.S. passengers access to a large number of international destinations through its Doha hub.

The airline's winter schedule includes additional flights to several destinations that are popular with American vacationers. Phuket and Malé will each receive 21 weekly flights from October 25, 2026, while Ho Chi Minh City will increase to 11 weekly flights from November 7.

Qatar Airways will also resume daily service to Zanzibar on October 25 and increase flights to Johannesburg to 18 weekly from December 2, up from 14.

For U.S. travelers, these increases could make it easier to find a suitable Doha connection when planning winter trips to Southeast Asia, the Maldives or parts of Africa.

Which U.S. Airports Have Qatar Airways Service?

Qatar Airways will continue operating from major U.S. gateways including:

  • New York-JFK
  • Chicago
  • Dallas-Fort Worth
  • Houston
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • Philadelphia
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • Washington, D.C.

The airline also restored daily Philadelphia–Doha service on August 1, 2026, giving travelers in the Philadelphia area a direct connection to Qatar Airways' Doha hub.

This network is particularly useful for passengers who live in cities served by Qatar Airways and want to reach destinations where the airline offers onward service through Doha.

More Flights to Europe Could Add Flexibility

Qatar Airways is also increasing service to major European destinations that are part of its wider network.

Flights between Doha and London Heathrow will increase to 56 weekly from October 25, compared with 49 previously. Service to Frankfurt will rise to 21 weekly flights from December 7, up from 18.

These are not new nonstop services from the United States. Instead, they add capacity within Qatar Airways' international network and could provide additional itinerary combinations for travelers connecting through Doha.

Australia Also Gets Additional Service

Travelers planning a longer trip to Australia will see additional Qatar Airways capacity during the winter schedule.

The airline plans to resume daily service to Canberra via Melbourne on December 9, 2026, while Melbourne service will increase to 14 weekly flights.

For Americans traveling to Australia, these additional services can create more options for connecting through Doha, depending on the U.S. departure city and travel dates.

What This Means for US Travel

Qatar Airways Is Also Expanding Starlink Wi-Fi

Qatar Airways is continuing its rollout of Starlink Wi-Fi alongside the winter network changes. The airline says more than 150 widebody aircraft are expected to be equipped with the technology, supporting up to 340 Starlink-enabled flights each day.

Travelers should check the aircraft assigned to their flight if onboard Wi-Fi is an important consideration, as Starlink availability is not necessarily the same on every service.

What U.S. Travelers Should Check Before Booking

Americans considering Qatar Airways for winter travel should look beyond the airline's 170-plus destination figure and check the details of their specific itinerary.

Before booking, travelers should confirm:

  • Their U.S. departure airport and flight frequency
  • The operating days of the Doha connection
  • The total connection time in Doha
  • Whether the onward flight operates on their travel date
  • The latest schedule, particularly for trips several months away

Qatar Airways' winter expansion gives U.S. travelers additional ways to reach destinations across Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia through Doha. But because frequencies differ by U.S. airport and some routes are actually operating less often, checking the complete itinerary remains essential when planning a winter trip.
